Marginalia

Connect an AI assistant

Marginalia exposes your archive to ChatGPT and Claude over MCP, so they can browse threads, read messages, and annotate moments on your behalf. Paste the server URL below into your assistant.

You'll sign in with your Marginalia account when the assistant connects — it acts as you, with your access.

Connect ChatGPT

  1. Open ChatGPT → Settings → Connectors → Advanced and enable Developer mode (read the risk notice shown there).
  2. In the chat composer's "+" menu, turn on Developer mode.
  3. Click "Add sources", then "Connect more".
  4. Name the connector "Marginalia" and paste the MCP URL above.
  5. Ask ChatGPT to use Marginalia (e.g. "list my threads").

Connect Claude

  1. Open Claude → Connectors → Add custom connector.
  2. Name the connector "Marginalia" and paste the MCP URL above.
  3. Enable the connector from the chat composer, then ask Claude to use Marginalia.

Refresh after the app changes

Assistants cache the tool list. When we ship updates, refresh the connector to pick them up.

ChatGPT

  1. Open ChatGPT's app preferences and pick Marginalia under "Enabled apps".
  2. Next to "Information", click "Refresh".
  3. If the URL changed, paste the latest URL from above.
  4. Start a new chat and ask ChatGPT to use Marginalia.

Claude

  1. Open the Connectors page and select Marginalia.
  2. Refresh or update the connector's tools.
  3. If the URL changed, paste the latest URL from above.
  4. Ask Claude to use Marginalia.
